Marley and Me = Bear and Jordan

is it just me or is Marley and me one of the greatest movies of all time. This movie really touched me. 99.9% of the time I never get emotional about movies. Something about Marley and Me though brought up memories of Bear my first dog before I became a South African Boerboel Breeder. Marley even looked like Bear Bear had a little bit of retriever in him. His girlfriend Mable who still comes over looking for bear even though he has been dead for 2 years now was is also a retriever. So forgive me for getting a little mushy over Bear but he was a friend brother and probably the best dog that I have ever owned.

Bear was a symbol of our neighborhood. people still remember him. When we were kids Bear went everywhere with us. When we left and went in the streets bear followed. When we went to the park to play sports bear was there. Bear was the man. HE was so good he never even wore a leash in fact we would let bear out and he would walk himself. Some days he went for short walk just to use the bathroom and then there were days when he would not even come home. These were the days that we knew a local female was in heat and bear was probably spending the night at one of his bitches house. Some time we didn't see bear for 3 or 4 days but that was normal for certain times of the year. One of our neighbors even stopped us and told us that he caught bear breaking into his patio where his husky was in heat. Luckily she was in a cage. . Our neighbor told us that we would have to pay to replace the hole in his patio that bear had ruined and the next time he caught him any where near his home our dog was going to disappear. He was very upset.

One time Bear went to another neighbors house and was spending the night there when he was attacked by a pack of stray dogs one of them a 3 legged rottweiler. She called the apl to tell them that a pack of dogs had moved onto her yard and she needed them removed. They came out and took the dogs away all but bear. our neighbor walked bear down us with her dog and told us what had happened how bear took on the whole pack of dogs solo. She told us how bear was so sweet she did not even mind him humping her dog. When the animal catcher came she wanted all the dogs gone except bear. as she told me the story Bear mounted her dog and began humping like crazy then he stopped and could not move. He was stuck to the ladies dog. I later found out that bear had just had sex with her. I was just a kid then. The lady say oh god they are stuck get the water hose and wet them up thats how you get hem apart. didn't know then but the best thing to do is just let them do it on their own.

Another time Bear was stuck to yet another of our neighbors dog. This time it was my good friend digity's dog. Well because we were still kids it was actually his moms dog. She came outside and saw bear stuck to her dog and she was furious. She told me to get my dog off of her immediately or she was going to sue us. For some reason this time Bear did not get her pregnant.

The only time bear would stay away longer then 3-4 days is when he was in jail. Yep Bear was in jail 5 times. One time we got there just before he was executed. Yep they had bear on death row. and we got there just in time to save him. We had to bring a photo of him. They did not just take our word for it that bear was our they needed proof. And the got all the proof they needed when bear seen us. We were to happy to be reunited with him. and he was over joyed to see us. The people at the apl said that this was the most movement that they had saw from him

Boerboel pedigrees

After looking at boerboel pedigrees for a few years now what i am beginning to be a bit concerned. A very high percentage of boerboels here in the untied states have the names Lourina Mac and Donkerhoek Kaalpoot in the pedigree. These were very popular sires in their day. The blood was so highly valued that Lourina Mac boerboels and Donkerhoelk kaalpoot dogs bred to the brothers and sisters back and forth on their sons granddaughters and grandsons back to the grandmother.

Fast forward to today and you see the offspring from these matings breeding between each other. Look up any of the pedigrees of your favorite boerboels and I bet you that they end up mentioning the above at least 2 times.

Now I hope that we are not already suffering from inbreeding depression in this breed but it is the truth. as we begin to lock and settle in type history has shown us when breeding dog that you also lock in bad traits sometime hidden disease or illness that cannot be see by the eye.

You want to breed Boerboel Dogs

Breeding South African boerboels is a monumental task. So much effort goes into a single litter of puppies books have been written on the subject. I decided to make make a check list for my readers to help us stay focused when there is a litter of South African Boerboel puppies to be cared for.

Before we even decide to breed south african boerboel puppies for sale we must ask ourselves some very serious questions. When want to be sure that we have the time energy and resources to properly care for the puppies and even more resources in case there is a problem.

After your resources are quantified and met. Then you must have a warm, secure, dry, area for mom to have puppies. This area should be nice and comfortable for mom and away from other dogs.

There are some universal principle in success. First thing you have to have is a clear cut goal. For a South African Boerboel dog breeder that would mean what is my mission long term and short term. What am I breeding for. What is the goal of type of dog that I am trying to produce. Set your eyes on the prize then focus all of your energy in the achieving your goal.

Only the best and most healthy specimens should qualify as breeding stock. Seek all the knowledge that you can find about the boerboel breed. Learn the risks in the breed. Find out what line are know for what if that info is available. Talk to some breeders find out what they are doing and are they happy with the results. Become all about what you need to be successful. Learn what other people who are successful in your field are doing. Study the best of the best and you will find they are experts in their chosen field knowing their subject like a book.

To breed boerboels you need to be very knowledgeable about the caring for dogs and puppies. There is much work involved and you still have to feed your dogs. We can only tell you the best ways we have found that work for us. Cleaning and good animal husbandry is the key to having healthy puppies and dogs.

Before you can have puppies health of your breeding stock is vital. If your male is not healthy when it is time to breed then he willl have a low sperm count. Full health means that the boerboel is not animal is not suffering from any infections recovering fromwoundshas a ggod healthy weight has can breed without any veterinary assistance. The idea is to have dogs that would be able to survive and breed in the wild and that takes a strong healthy dog.

Puppies puppies puppies....

The puppies are doing well. She delivered a total of Eleven. 6 males and 4 females survived. Today the eyes are starting to open. On the 3rd day the puppies had the tails docked. This is a healthy litter of boerboels and mom is doing excellent. She has plenty of milk and a very healthy appetite.

So far all of the puppies are thick and heavy boned. Real heavy heads and neck.Strong chest and shoulders. They all have really strong thick frames for puppies. You can see that these pups will be muscular and big. They are all real dense puppies. Looks like a litter full of Moe when he was a puppy.

A few boerboel puppies for sale

There are 5 breathe taking males with many wrinkles, big head strong black mask and deep red color. 4 of these puppies have strong pigment on the feet and chest indicating that these pups will be rich in color. The one male puppy is the runt who is just like his brothers but golden brown the mini version.

The are 2 extra large females, 1 large and 1 medium. The 2 xl females are the size of males. Look for more info and details on our website.

It is always exciting to have puppies on the ground. To watch them grow is delightful. I as the boerboel breeder have the luxury of seeing each puppy from birth into adult hood. I get to pick and choose good solid homes for all of my pups. It is really comforting to know that the dog is treated well and makes it owners very happy. This is what breeding boerboels is about. You only know when you have owned a boerboel. It is not your average dog. Boerboel owners know what I mean.

There is nothing comforting like owning a boerboel

Dogs in general are therefor us. When I have a bad day the dogs cheer me up. My dogs are there for me the same way that I am there for them. I always say that all a dog has is it owner. We are the dogs world. Having a boerboel dog is a great responsibility.

Boerboel dogs are very in tune to the owner. It is said that the boerboel has a six sense giving it the ability to feel what the owner feels. From my observation boerboel dogs read and study human body language. They can feel the air and get a sense of a situation. The Boerboel is a thinker and great decision maker. This is the ultimate dog to rely on once a good human dog bond has been formed.

It take a serious dog person to really appreciate owning a boerboel.People I talk to who own boerboels are in love with the breed. It is no wonder this breed is highly sought after. The are a joy to own.

Sabt Boerboel appraisal Ohio

What is a boerboel and how did I get to owning a boerboel. My love of dogs began with bear and evolved into a love for the South African Boerboel, the ultimate dogs protector and companion. The South African Boerboel was established as a pure breed in the early 1980s. Boerboel dogs have been around for centuries in South Africa.

I found the South African Boerboel in my search for a large guardian breed who would be an impressive deterrent yet lacking in aggression. I needed a dog who I could count on to defend and protect my family and home, but Who did not want to bite chase or harm anyone or thing who was not a threat. My new dog could not be the type that would bark like crazy or bark for any reason unless there was a threat. Living in the city I did not want a dog who viewed people in general as a threat. I needed a dog who could make good decisions in determining who is friend and who is foe.

In my research I found the boerboel breed. This breed had all of the qualities that I was looking for in a dog. The thing that really attracted me to the breed other than the natural beauty that the posses was the fact the the are well know to be very intelligent highly sophisticated great protectors of the family.

After I got my first boerboel I wanted more. After months and months of research I finally found a dogs who I thought had immaculate bloodlines. This female I selected had genes I thought could produce world class South African Boerboel specimens. This was my female Dopper boerboel Greit. Her bloodline goes back to the most historic boerboel in the breed. I felt like I could not lose with a breeding female of this caliber.

The Return Of Bear

Soon as we my mom met Mrs. Westbrook she had to tell her about Bear. Mrs Westbrook looked shocked to find out we had a puppy. She told my mom that she thought the puppy had run away. We quickly changed our story from "the Westbrooks gave us the dog" to "we found the dog wondering across the street. "
Bear could not live with my cousin any longer because we obtained the dog under false pretenses. When his mom found out we had to immediately return Bear. So he came back to us. We were supposed to be returning the dog to the Westbrooks. We loved Bear so much that we would always say that the Westbrooks were never home when we went to return the dog. My mom liked him so we ended up keeping him. to be continued http://www.superbreeds.biz

the fuzzy puppy Bear.....

Just as I began to write I heard 4 or 5 shots fired at the Gas Usa. The police have just arrived. The fire truck has arrived. Police are telling people to back away. I am guessing some one is shot in the Gas Usa. Police are looking around. Shooting at the Gas Usa. 2 police cars are there. Ambulance has arrived. Someone shot at the Gas Usa. Victim in route to hospital. I knew I heard some shooting. East Cleveland.

Back to the great story about Bear. My cousin Ike convinced Aunty Ween to take Bear hoome with them. So much for finally getting myself a dog. Life goes on.

I am still about 11 years old and very fascinated with animals. I have all of these animal picture books from the library that I read and look at. I wonder how my cousin is with the dog.

St some point in time I am invited to Jeremy Westbrook's party at the powerhouse. Im' telling my mom I would like to go. She has to drop me off so that she can investigate and make sure we will be o.k.. My mom always was on top of my every move as a kid and even now as an adult. As a youngster I did not get away with much for long.

We pull up to the Westbrook's house and the puppies run out of the garage. "OOOOOOOh! look at the puppies. They are so cute." says mom. "The puppies!!" I thought. It dawns on me that we took the puppy without permission. Even though they were "free" puppies we did not have permission to take the one.

I had to keep my mom from talking to Jeremy's mom about the dog and "everything will be cool" I thought.
When we first knock there was no answer. I say"mom just leave me I'll be ok." And she gives me that look like that says "do I look like a fool". Out comes Jeremy from the front door.

"Is your mother here?" my mother ask Jeremy.

Hopefully my mom won't mention anything about the dog to Mrs Westbrook.

Out walks Mrs Westbrook in the same nano second that thought crossed my mind.

My mom says happily. "Those puppies are so cute!!! How are you? I am Mrs Pittman." to be continued......

The Ohio Boerboel Story

Well Hello Every one I am Jordan Pittman the Boerboel guy. Many people ask me how did I get into breeding South African Boerboels. Or How did I get so involved in breeding dogs. Today I want to set the record straight. I have always had dogs in my life. It goes back to my families country roots. Where dogs were a necessity rather than a luxury.

My first dog was bear. He was a golden retreiver chow mix who me and my cousin Bam http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bam_Childress got for free from the Westbrooks in here is East Cleveland.

We went where the Westbrooks were keeping the dogs and knocked at their door. When we knocked about 12 puppies came running from in the garage. No one ever came to the door so we just picked a puppy and put it in our book bag and went home after all they were free right?

When we got home we had to figure out what was our next move. As 11 year old kids we hadn't really thought this out. We came up with the plan to leave the puppy on our porch until it was time for Bam to go home, Then he would sneak the dog in the car without his mom finding out.

Our plan failed and bear was found by my mom on the porch. When my mom saw bear she fell in love with the cute golden puppy. "where did you get him?" my mom asked. "My friend gave him us for free." I said. My mom loved bear immediately. We were busted! What were we going to do with this puppy?

When my aunt Ween arrived she was dead set on us returning the dog. How could people just give kids a dog? she wondered. My aunt and my mom just couldn't get over how cute he was. He
"looks like a furbal, ...he s so cute" my aunt said.

Cousin Ike (Bam's Brother) convinced his mom that he could sell the dogs if nothing else they needed that dog. So they left with Bear.

I bet you are wondering " isn't bear your dog?" Tomorrow I will continue the story and you can find out how we ended up with bear. To be continued........
